Summary of Civilization:

The Olmec civilization was first etablished in Mesoamerica, Mexico. The civilzation lasted from 1200 B.C. to about 300 B.C.. Most Olmec men were farmers. They brought their food to the other people of Mesoamerica. They brought squash, corn, beans, and other crops. They also fished and hunted. The people lived in tiny houses surronding small villages. One more thing, the Olmec people were divided into social groups based on their wealth or power.

Geography:
It is located along the coast of the Gulf Of Mexico. The Olmec are located in Mesoamerica and were the first major civilation in Mesoamerica. It lasted from about 1200 B.C. to about 300 B.C. The Olmec were surrounded by rain forests, grasslands, and swamps. They lived in small houses surrounded by villages!
Climate:
The Olmec people lived along the hot coast of the Gulf of Mexico. They were surrounded by rain forest, grassland and, swamps.



Art and Architecture:
To this day, the Olmec people are very famous for their giant stone heads. The heads were carved from baslet and wieghed around 40 tons!! This wieght is about one-halfof a large tracto-trailer. Archeologist believe that the heads were made to represent the gods or rulers the Olmec believed in. Some of the other statues were gods that were half human half animal, or two animals combined. These animals were ones that the Olmec were familiar with such as, eagals, jaguars, sharks, and snakes. One Olmec god that they believed in very much was the winged serpent.
Culture (Religion, Customs, Food, ect.):

They live in small circular houses and they eat corn and beans. They also raised squash and other crops on their farms and a lot of other things! The Olmec also hunted and fished around there homes and civilization. Their houses had thatched roofs and thay are very small. These small house surrounded other small villages along the coast of the Gulf Of Mexico. Most of the farms crops went to the villages around them. The Olmec people were divided into two social classes based on wealth and power. The Olmec government was a theocracy. In a theocracy, the leader and the ruling classes are believed to represent the will of the gods. The priests and government officials were the most powerful classes in Olmec history. Other soical classes were made up of merchants and craftspeople. The lowest class was made up of farmers. The Olmeccivilization is often called the "Mother Culture" or "Mother Civilization" of Mesoamerica. This is because the Olmec directly influenced all of the Mesoamerican civilizations that followed!

The Olmec people grew corn,beans,squash,tomatoes,avacodoes, and fruits.They also hunted and fished.They had plowes so it was a little easier to grow crops. They had copper and they had tons of bricks and thing to build because they had a big village. They also had big pyramids.
